I wanted to start this community because as a first year coach and coordinator (how did I manage to be talked into doing both?!) I know there are times when I am a bit overwhelmed with everything. Even as a seasoned participant, I would never be successful at this without the help of others.

A little about your mod: I started participating in OotM when I was in 4th grade and competed until the end of 8th grade. During that time we went to state every year except one and even made it to the World Finals. I still have my pins from World and I love pulling them out along with my certificates and letters from "important people" such as the state senators at the time, local government, and local school board members so that I can show my daughter an important part of my life. Looking back, I wish I would have had the sense to keep competing through high school because now I realize how much fun I had in the program.

If you decide to join please introduce yourself and let others know that we are here! Also, if you can think of any other key words to add to our interests, please let me know =)

great idea!!! first year coach here, and this is only my "second" year teaching. i don't know ANYTHING about the program, never having had it in my own school days. It is looked down upon in my district so I have only heard horror stories. :-/

Don't listen to the horror stories!! OotM is a fantastic program! In my district it is favorable to implement a program at your school; in fact, I would venture to say that the vast majority of public schools in the district and most of the private schools have a program.

Make sure you introduce yourself. I know there are not many people yet, but I think this is the only coaches / coordinators community on here. Spread the word!
